UNICAL: CASSON Visits HOD Mass Comm. Seeks Partnership to Boost Staff, Students' Emotional Support

The Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), Cross River State Chapter, yesterday visited the Head of Department, Mass Communication, University of Calabar to discuss ways of enhancing counselling for both staff and students of the department and the entire university.   Professor Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, on Thursday, reversed his ban on underage admissions following protests by stakeholders at the 2024 ongoing policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Examination. Immediately, Prof. Mamman made the announcement, the stakeholders who turned out their members from across tertiary institutions in the country, voiced their resistance which turned the session into a rowdy one. UNICAL Announces Sales of Admission Forms for UNICAL-JUPEB Programme

  The University of Calabar has announced the commencement of sales of admission forms for the 2024/2025 academic session into its Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (UNICAL-JUPEB) programme.  This intensive 10-months programme guarantees admission into 200 Level in various faculties, including College of Medical Sciences, Law, Engineering, Management Sciences, Social Sciences, Sciences, and Arts/Humanities. To be eligible, applicants must possess a minimum of five O'LEVEL credits passes at not more than two sittings in SSCE, WAEC, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB, including Mathematics and English Language. No JAMB or POST-UTME is required for admission into this programme. Withhold Allocation of States Using Unelected LG Chairmen-Reps Tell FG

  The House of Representatives has urged the federal government to withhold allocations to states running a transition implementation committee. The House also urged the Revenue Mobilisation and Allocation Fiscal Commission to create a special account where allocations due to local governments run by unelected officials would be paid. The House stated that the money should be withheld until elected representatives are put in place by such state governments. The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance by Gaza Jonathan (SDP-Nasarawa) and Ademorin Kuye (APC-Lagos) on the floor of the House in Abuja on Tuesday. The motion is titled “Urgent need to address the refusal of state government to uphold democratic principles in the local governments and the financial impropriety of unelected local government officials.   Following the unbundling of Mass Communication by the 242nd meeting of the Senate of the University of Calabar, on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Department of Mass Communication, University of Calabar unbundles into six new programmes and there  are; 1. Advertising. 2. ⁠ Broadcasting. 3. ⁠Development Communication. 4. ⁠Journalism and Media Studies. 5. ⁠Public Relations. 6. ⁠Strategic Communication. Recall that the National Universities' Commission (NUC) accreditation report gave full accreditation to the Department of Mass Communication which paved way for unbundling into six new programmes.
