Yala Achievers Summit: Dr Okputu Commends Gov. Otu Over Gratuities, Infrastructure Development in Yala, Northern Senatorial District

Dr Julius Okputu, a member of the State Policy Advisory Committee in Cross River State has commended his Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu for the audacious commitment towards payment of gratuities to retirees from 2014 till date.


Dr Okputu made this disclosure in an address as Chairman of Yala Achievers Summit and Awards ceremony held in Calabar on Sunday, 28th July, 2024.

The Chairman of the occasion specifically opined that the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu be specially celebrated in recognition and acknowledgement for his steadfast love for Yala Local Government Area and development strides.

The former chairman of the State Planning Commission acknowledged that the relief the governor has brought to retirees should be applauded across the state.

" Let us applaud his Excellency for setting aside the sum of Ten Billion Naira for the payment of gratuity of retired civil servants from 2014 in the state civil service" 

Continuing, he appreciated the governor for  "the appointment of three members of the CRS Executive Council from Yala , a special recognition of its status and stature especially for making Yala the fulcrum for the implementation of His Excellency's humongous development master plan".

Described as Ukelle First Son, Dr Okputu emphasised that governor's intention towards the people are pro development in line with the overall yearnings of the people.

" With the construction of the Yahe-Wanokom-Wanikade Benue Border Road, the Yache Road and Akreha Bridge, provision for the completion of the Okuku- Okpoma Road and other roads in the Northern Senatorial and other Senatorial Districts"

Teenager Commits Suicide Over Poor JAMB Scores

  19-year-old, Opesusi Faith Timilehin, has taken her own life in Ikorodu, Lagos State, after scoring 190 in 2025 UTME. Faith Timilehin took her own life in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State on Monday The Deceased Teenager  The teenager, originally from Abeokuta, had been living with her elder sister in Ikorodu. According to family and neighbours, Timilehin was a calm and respectful young woman with high academic hopes. She had applied to study Microbiology and was deeply disappointed by her score of 190, which she considered lower than her 2024 result. “She said her last year’s result was better than this year’s,” a close friend told News Central on the phone.
