 Solomon Ugo, Calabar

Elder, Dr Fred Okem, the Yala Local Government Council Chairman has been commended for excellent performance by the Auditor General for Local Government, Mr Eddy Ofem .

The Auditor General made the commendation when he paid an assessment visit to the Council on Wednesday to assess what the council chairman  has deployed the funds so far released to him since assumption of office.

"We are on routine visit to all the Councils in the state to inspect books, assess their compliance level to financial rules and to make sure their financial statement is up -to- date  for presentation on the 28th of February so that we can report to His Excellency, Senator Bassey Edet Otu how the funds released so far to the Chairmen have been utilised"'

Mr Ofem stated that from what he has seen in Yala the Chairman is a messiah who has come to put smiles on the faces of the people of the local government area and called for continuous compliance to extant financial rules.

"Financial rules require special attention to comply with relevant and extant rules of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN and the Courts such that every transaction follows due process and the correct process"
