Unical@50: Central Organizing Committee To Hold Colloquium

 

As part of its activities lined up to mark the Unical@50 celebration, the Central Organizing Committee of Unical@50 has schedule to hold colloquium with the theme: *l"University of Calabar and its Contributions to National Development.” on the 12th of February, 2025, at 10 am prompt.


A release by the chairman, Central Organizing Committee, Prof. Eyong Ubana Eyong, to a section of the media indicates that the Lead Presenter of the colloquium will be an erudite scholar and immediate past Vice Chancellor of Covenant University, Prof. Abiodun Adebayo.

The event which is billed to take place at the University International Conference Center (UICC) will have stakeholders in the Educational sector such as Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar Prof. James Epoke, Chairman Board of Trustees, TopFaith University, Mkpatak, Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Emmanuel T Abraham as discussants.

Other discussants include: Vice Chancellor, Maduka University, Enugu State, Prof. Charles Ogbulogo, Executive Partner for Intels; Middle East, Europe, and Africa, Dr. Rita Ndidi Amchienwa, Prof. Ngozi Osarenren, National President of Unical Alumni, Barr. Paul Eshiemomo and Entertainment Icon Mr. Keppy Ekpenyong.


The event which promises an in-depth exploration of contemporary educational issues and the role of the university to the nation's development will have the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi as Chief host.

To this end, the University of Calabar Alumni, University community and the general public are cordially invited to attend the Unical@50 colloquium.

Teenager Commits Suicide Over Poor JAMB Scores

  19-year-old, Opesusi Faith Timilehin, has taken her own life in Ikorodu, Lagos State, after scoring 190 in 2025 UTME. Faith Timilehin took her own life in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State on Monday The Deceased Teenager  The teenager, originally from Abeokuta, had been living with her elder sister in Ikorodu. According to family and neighbours, Timilehin was a calm and respectful young woman with high academic hopes. She had applied to study Microbiology and was deeply disappointed by her score of 190, which she considered lower than her 2024 result. “She said her last year’s result was better than this year’s,” a close friend told News Central on the phone. After ingesting a substance known locally as Push Out-a common rodent poison Timilehin reportedly went to her sister’s office and asked for palm oil to ease the pain.
