The Chairman made this disclosure in a chat with Solugo Solugo publisher of Daily News Nigeria.
The LG gaffer emphasised that improving public transportation would remain a top priority of his administration as he stressed "the critical role transportation plays in the daily lives of the people of Yala Local Government Area .
He pointed out that," inadequate and unreliable transport options have long been a major challenge for residents which seemingly affects their ability to access markets, schools, healthcare services and other essentials".
Stating further, he reaffirmed his poise to "providing affordable and efficient transportation for our people is not just a promise, but a necessity.
"The introduction of mini buses will significantly reduce the long standing transportation challenges faced by the people and this initiative will not only enhance mobility but also stimulate local economic activities by improving access to markets and other vital services."
Dr. Okem's promise aligns with his broader vision of fostering sustainable development in Yala LGA. He noted that many areas within the local government area lack adequate road infrastructure, making it difficult for residents to travel long distances.
According to him, the mini buses would be strategically stationed at key locations across the local government so as to ensure that several villages are not left behind. The initiative and others geared towards opening up the LGA through regular grading of roads is also expected to create job opportunities for indigenous drivers and contribute to reducing the burden of long hours spent on public transport.
