2024/2025 Session; UNICAL Holds Solemn Assembly As VC Urges Students,Staff To Align With God

 

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi has stated that the essence of the institution's Solemn Assembly was to hand over the affairs of the institution of into God’s hands. 

The Vice-Chancellor stated this at a service tagged "Solemn Assembly Inauguration of 2024/2025 Academic Session" with the theme "Spare Your People, Oh Lord!" held at the University of Calabar International Conference Centre.


Prof. Obi said that though it has become a tradition to seek God's presence, intervention and blessings at the beginning of every semester and session, there was a need for staff and students to personalize the theme which indicates the intention of the institution to walk with God and align with His ways.

She thanked God for sparing the lives of staff and students and charged them to continue to uphold the good name of the University and also commended the Guest Speaker for accepting the invitation to share God's precious words with the institution.

 

The Guest Preacher, Rev.(Prof) Richard Antigha speaking on the theme "Spare Your People, Oh Lord", emphasized on principles, practices and prospects with Biblical reference to Joel 2:17-25.

The Clergy however called on all staff and students to journey in the principles of God while emphasizing it great rewards at the end. 

The well-attended solemn assembly had Principal officers in attendance as well as Deans, Directors, Heads of departments, students and a team of clergy who officiated at the service.

Teenager Commits Suicide Over Poor JAMB Scores

  19-year-old, Opesusi Faith Timilehin, has taken her own life in Ikorodu, Lagos State, after scoring 190 in 2025 UTME. Faith Timilehin took her own life in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State on Monday The Deceased Teenager  The teenager, originally from Abeokuta, had been living with her elder sister in Ikorodu. According to family and neighbours, Timilehin was a calm and respectful young woman with high academic hopes. She had applied to study Microbiology and was deeply disappointed by her score of 190, which she considered lower than her 2024 result. “She said her last year’s result was better than this year’s,” a close friend told News Central on the phone.
