UNICAL VC Takes Delivery of IVM 5008 Fire Fighting Truck


In a bid to curb incessant fire outbreaks in the university of Calabar, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has taken delivery of IVM 5008 fire fighting truck as part of her proactive measures to curtail and contain any future incident of fire outbreak in the institution. 


The Innoson high-powered automobile fire fighting truck has eight thousand liter capacity of water and two thousand liters capacity foam.

While receiving the multimillion naira truck at the administrative building of the institution on Wednesday 29th May, 2024, Prof. Obi reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to protecting lives and properties in the University. 


The VC has always showed commitment to  ensure that fire disasters are averted at the speed of light,  granted immediate employment and training of three personnel who will ensure 24hours availability of the truck in case of any emergency in the institution. 


It could be recalled that the  University of Calabar had faced multiple challenges of fire outbreaks which most recently razed a multi-million naira central store and a six block staff quarters belonging to the institution.

Teenager Commits Suicide Over Poor JAMB Scores

  19-year-old, Opesusi Faith Timilehin, has taken her own life in Ikorodu, Lagos State, after scoring 190 in 2025 UTME. Faith Timilehin took her own life in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State on Monday The Deceased Teenager  The teenager, originally from Abeokuta, had been living with her elder sister in Ikorodu. According to family and neighbours, Timilehin was a calm and respectful young woman with high academic hopes. She had applied to study Microbiology and was deeply disappointed by her score of 190, which she considered lower than her 2024 result. “She said her last year’s result was better than this year’s,” a close friend told News Central on the phone.
