Prince 7 Youth Development Initiative Launches Pad The Girls Initiative to Combat Period Poverty

 In Nigeria, an estimated 37 million women and girls face period poverty, struggling to access or afford menstrual products such as pads, tampons, pain medication, and underwear. This issue remains largely neglected by society. Over the past five years, the rising cost of sanitary pads has exacerbated the problem, making these essential items even more inaccessible for many.  On World Menstrual Hygiene Day, May 28, 2024, the Prince 7 Youth Development Initiative (P7YDI), a leading non-profit organization focused on the economic development of youths across Africa, took an innovative step to end period poverty. The organization launched its  'Pad the Girls" initiative at a secondary school in Nassarawa State, where they distributed year-long supplies of sanitary pads to 200 girls and provided education on menstrual health and the use of technology for period tracking and overall menstrual health. In a bid to curb incessant fire outbreaks in the university of Calabar, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has taken delivery of IVM 5008 fire fighting truck as part of her proactive measures to curtail and contain any future incident of fire outbreak in the institution.  The Innoson high-powered automobile fire fighting truck has eight thousand liter capacity of water and two thousand liters capacity foam. Unical VC Appoints Ekwok As New HOD Mass Communication

Solomon Ugo, Calabar The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Banku Obi, has appointed a new Head for the department of Mass Communication. Dr Lawrence Ekwok He is Dr Lawrence Ekwok. In a letter conveying the appointment to  the   former Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship Nigeria (PFN)  in Cross River State.Prof Obi urged him  to continue the laudable Programmes of the department.  The newly appointed HOD comes in with a wealth of experience in both practice and administration having managed the affairs of several reputable bodies. He has been pivotal to the start of and growth of the fledgling department of Mass Communication that also  runs Post Graduate Programmes  in addition to undergraduate Programmes.

Only Students of Federal Institutions Will Benefit From Student Loans- FG

Ahead of the formal opening of the Students’ Loan portal this Friday, the Nigeria Education Loan Fund has said it will commence with students in federal tertiary institutions. This comes as the Fund has said only students whose institutions have uploaded their data on its dashboard would be eligible to apply. Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Fund, Akintinde Sawyerr, stated this on Monday at a Pre-Application Sensitisation Press Conference in Abuja. He said 1.2 million students from federal government-owned universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and technical colleges would benefit from the first phase of the scheme.
