Celebrating the UNICAL's graceful convocation and 50th anniversary

By George Odok  Prof Florence Obi,Vice Chancellor, University of Calabar  The 37th convocation/50th anniversary of the University of Calabar has come and gone, but the memory of the beautiful and well organized event will remain vivid in the annals of history of the institution and in the minds of the public. The 37th convocation ceremony of the institution coincided with the 50 years anniversary of the institution. UNICAL was established in 1975, with Prof. Emmanuel Ayandele as its first VC. From 1975 to November 2020, the university was run by very distinguished male professors until December 1st 2020 when Grace shined upon Prof. Florence Obi who was elected as the 11th substantive and first female VC of the institution. As a woman of grace, it is in her tenure that the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the institution fell on. UNICAL has contributed to nation building through research, says VC

UNICAL VC, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has inspecting the Research Fair and Exhibition of the University as part of the activities lined up for the 50th anniversary and 37th convocation ceremony of the institution.  The VC stated that the Research Fair and Exhibition was to showcase the university’s research contribution to national development. She added that the university exist to come up with innovations for human and nation building.  According to the VC, the research fair is also an avenue for the private sector to come in and partner with the university for overall development of the country. Also speaking, the Director of Research and Development in the University of Calabar, Prof. Igri Okon Bassey, said that research is a vital part of any institution and nation building. He said that the institution in the past 50 years has come up with some research work that have greatly impacted positively on the university community and lives in general.

UNICAL @ 50: University of Calabar Set for Golden Jubilee, 37th Convocation Ceremony

  The University of Calabar is set to celebrate an epoch moment in its history as it marks its 50th anniversary alongside its 37th Convocation Ceremony.  The Vice Chancellor, Prof Florence Banku Obi made this announcement during a press conference held at the institution’s main campus to highlight the week long festivities scheduled from March 17 to March 23, 2025. The VC described the upcoming celebrations as “historical, epochal and unifying”, because it brings together students, alumni, staff and stakeholders. Dr Achadu Flags Off Rehabilitation of Six Classrooms Block in Okpaka, Wanokon

Chairman House Committee on Education CRH Assembly Hon Dr Martins Achadu , has flagged- off the rehabilitation of Six Block of Classrooms he influenced at Community Primary School, Okpaka, Wanokon. Represented by  His Chief of Staff,Hon Kerian Ebri, the Ukelle State Constituency Representative thanked his Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu for considering Wanokom as one of the beneficiaries of the project. The spokesman of Okpaka  community applauded the Hon Member for considering Okpaka as one of the beneficiaries of the project. He also  emphasised the confidence he has on Dr Achadu who has been very instrumental so far as Ukelle representative in the state assembly. Similarly, the contractor called on the community for total support  in order to complete the project.
